Botulinum Toxin is a good way to treat wrinkles caused by repetitive movements, i.e. frowning. It relaxes the muscles that cause the wrinkles. The result is a younger, more relaxed look.
The most common areas to treat are the frown (the eleven's, the area between the eyebrows), crow's feet (around the eyes) and the forehead. Superficial wrinkles will disappear after one treatment. Deeper wrinkles may not disappear anymore, but could become softer with multiple treatments. Besides treating wrinkles, Botulinum Toxin could also be used for other subtle, natural adjustments, such as lifting eyebrows, lifting downturned corners of the mouth and smoothing out the chin area. A combination of treatments leads to a fresher, more youthful appearance.
There are different brands of botulinum toxine, the medical term for Botulinum Toxin, available. At Beauty Centre Maastricht, we exclusively use Azzalure®. This is from the same company that provides Restylane®, a well-known hyaluronic acid filler, and Sculptra®. Azzalure is of high quality and has already proven its efficacy in medicine for multiple decades.
All our treatments with injectables are performed by aesthetic physician Renate Cheung. We have clients from the Netherlands as well as Belgium.
During a treatment, the Botulinum Toxin is injected through the skin by a very thin needle. It is usually a treatment that is well tolerated. For people who are highly sensitive to pain, we offer the use of a topical numbing cream. The result of the Botulinum Toxin can be noticed in a couple of days after the treatment and the maximum effect is reached after 10 to 14 days. In the next coming months, the Botulinum Toxin will then be inactivated by the body in a natural way and after approximately 3 to 6 months the result is gone. This means the wrinkles that have been treated will re-appear. Depending on your wishes, the Botulinum Toxin treatment can be performed again.
Besides cosmetic reasons, Botulinum Toxin can also be used for certain medical conditions, such as headaches, migraine, teeth grinding/jaw clenching (bruxism) and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis). Treatment of the aforementioned conditions is available at Beauty Centre Maastricht.
